The Help Movie Review

The Help=***** ( Epic! You must see! )

The Help starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Octavia Spencer is an extremely believable story revealing the portal of the relationships between people of colored skin and white skin in the south set in the early 1960's. This movie is an emotionally shocking film showing the inequality of the white home owners and their help. I saw the movie  first which propelled me to read the book.

This movie is set in  Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960's. Skeeter Phelan ( Emma Stone) a libeler  graduate from college,  just got a job to write the cleaning tips column for her local newspaper and is determined to write a story from the prospective of the help. She was brought up by her colored nanny, Constantine. She can’t pin down the reason why Constantine (Cicely Tyson), the beloved family maid, was let go. (fired) The relationship between Skeeter and Constantine was clearly closer than Skeeter’s bond with her own mother.

Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) has raised 17 white children in Jackson during a time when she lost her own son. Throughout the story Aibileen is the nanny for Mea Mobely and becomes her second mother.

Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer) is the most fiery and explosive of the maids. Her big mouth gets her fired many time throughout the story including her last incident involving a chocolate pie.

This movie was rated 8.1 out of 10 stars by IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) and rated PG-13 for Language and Violence. 

Life As We Know It Movie Review

Life As We Know It=****1/2

Alison (Christina Hendricks) and Peter (Hayes MacArthur) are happily married, have a gorgeous home, and a beautiful baby daughter named Sophie. But the happiness they feel in each other's presence doesn't spread to their best friends. A few years back Alison tried to set up her best friend, bakery owner/caterer Holly (Heigl), with Peter's best friend, up-and-coming TV sports director Eric (Duhamel), and the results were disastrous. Eric acted like a complete jerk and Holly called the date off before they'd even pulled away from the curb. Since that time, Holly and Eric have continued to get on each other's nerves, and their mutual dislike is obvious.  

When a horrific accident thrusts the two together, they're forced to put most of their feelings of intense dislike toward each other aside. Alison and Peter left their precious Sophie in Eric and Holly's care, and though the thought of having to live in the same house and raise a child together would never have crossed their minds in happier times, the two find a way to tolerate each other for Sophie's sake. As they put aside their differences for the greater good, Holly and Eric discover there's more to one another than initially meets the eye.

Life As We Know It  directed by Greg Berlanti and is rated PG-13 for sexual material, language.

Thor Movie Review

 Thor= **** 

Thor staring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston is a great movie.  I saw it in 2D and I don't really see any reason to watch it in 3D. The effects were beautiful and the main characters were well developed. The story unfolded bit by bit and it was easy to get lost in the movie(in a good way). My one regret is that the plot was kind of predictable. Other than that I really enjoyed it! Some images could be a little frightening for small kids probably ages 5-8. An example of this is when the blue people (ice monsters) appear. Since I saw the movie in theaters, it was very loud. I loved the sound track. It was filled with action and suspense. If you like action and fantasy, watch this!!  

Salt Movie Review

Salt = ***1/2

Director Phillip Noyce, makes this action thriller starring Angelina Jolie as a CIA agent  Evelyn Salt, who is accused of being a Russian spy. With each attempt Salt (Jolie) makes to prove her innocence, her mentor, Winter (Liev Schreiber), only grows more suspicious of her true motivations. 

This Movie changed my thought of Angelina, because all the movies she usually are in of her being a rich, well know character. Another thing that I thought was very cool for Angelina is her doing her own stunts. She will not take no for an answer even if the director Phillip thinks she can't. Angelina trained a lot for this movie in order to do her own stunts, and I think its really cool that she did. I thought this movie was quite interesting. Supersize Me Movie Review

Supersize Me = ***1/2

The documentary "Super Size Me" is very interesting film.   This movie tells the story of a very healthy, middle-aged man named Morgan Spurlock who decided to find out how bad fast food actually is for the body. 

He guessed that the reason America is so obese is because of the amount of fast food that they eat. In order to see if this hypothesis was correct, he decided that he would eat at McDonald's three times a day for an entire month. He had to order supersized meals when asked, and eat everything on the menu at least once. He also could not walk more than the average American exercises each day. As part of this experiment, he asked many people what they thought of McDonald's and how often they ate there. At first, the new diet did not make a huge difference to Spurlock, but after about a week he started to feel a change in his physical and mental health. 

Spurlock concluded that fast food is dangerous, unhealthy, and likely the reason why America is so obese. 

This movie confirmed for me that I would NEVER go to McDonald's. I would love to hear your feed back.  

Yes Man Movie Review

Yes Man = ****

"Yes Man" staring Jim Carrey as Carl Allen, a guy who says no to every opportunity that comes to him until he signs up for a self-help program based on one simple covenant: say "yes" to everything and anything.   

The power of "YES" begins to transform Carl's life in amazing and unexpected ways getting him promoted at work and opening the door to a new romance. But his willingness to embrace every opportunity might just become too much of a good thing. 

 

Limitless Movie Review

LIMITLESS = ****

A great science fiction movie always begins with a great “what if” question. Neil Burger’s latest film “Limitless” asks what if there was a pill that could make us smarter, richer and more powerful. Bradley Cooper stars as Eddie Morra who learns about the existence of such a pill after randomly running into his ex-brother-in-law on a New York street.
 The pill opens up and activates those large areas of our brains that, we are told, are never used. It allows us to process and understand information much faster than the average person. It opens those dusty file cabinets of lost memory buried deep in our warehouse. It allows us to interact positively with anyone in social situations. The ability to understand the stock market from a psychological point of view can, apparently, turn you into a rich man overnight.
 Because this pill is designed to make us smarter, the film has a level of intelligence usually abandoned in recent Hollywood thrillers. Thankfully the pill does not give us superhuman strength, so Cooper never morphs into Iron Man and the movie avoids comic book stupidity. Although I’m sure a movie about a pill that turns someone into a superhero can’t be far off, “Limitless” is a thoughtful real-world thriller based on a great “what if” question.

Welcome to my Blog

When people feel lonely or sad, to happy even, they sometimes go to the movies to make them feel better. I on the other hand love the movie know matter how I feel. Of course everyone loves going to the theater but I also prefer my home T.V. I made this blog because one thing I am interested in doing as a career when I grow up is being a movie critic. I enjoy watching any types of movies including action, adventure, comedy (which is my personal favorite) musical and dance, science fiction, and western. Since I love watching movies so much, my mom brought up the idea of writing a review for each movie I watch. I thought that was a great idea so I made blog to share my thoughts on the movies. First and foremost, I would like to tell you a little about myself besides the movies. I am a 12 year-old  7th grader attending Centennial Middle School in Boulder, Colorado. I love playing tennis and have played in a couple tournaments including a back to school tournament, 14 girls singles, and to my amazement ended up wining the tournament. I also love writing and I have written a story about the Holocaust for my languages arts class. I have been training in a form of martial arts called To-Shin-Do for 4 and a half years now and I just recently earned my black belt this February.
